Valeo’s Security Systems accommodates 700 staff with 110,000 sf of manufacturing space and 70,000 sf of laboratory/research, administrative and support spaces. Like the other facilities the firm has designed for Valeo, the building reflects the company’s commitment to quality and innovation. The challenge of the project for the Davis Brody Bond team was to build a large-scale industrial building with strong formal expression, large spans, and a rationalized structural system on a 30m sloping site along the São Paulo-Rio highway. Through careful positioning of the different programmatic areas, and a clever use of the existing topography, volumes of cut and fill were equalized, promoting a sustainable approach to the preservation of the excavation on site.
