The Seattle Children’s Research Institute’s West 8th Facility was designed with the goal to bring two previously dispersed dry research centers — the Center for Clinical and Translational Research and the Center for Child Health, Behavior, and Development — together in a contiguous and collaborative work environment with Research Administration.

After test-fitting a conceptual program, selecting a space, and establishing new metrics for the final program, Davis Brody Bond designed the facility in a new 42,500 sf location directly adjacent to Seattle Children’s Research Institute’s campus. The completed facility, designed to maximize capacity, connectivity and transparency, features an open lobby, connected horizontally to a large landscaped roof deck and vertically to all floors of the facility through a glass and steel communicating stair. Adjacent to the lobby is a common area for all occupants including a full kitchen and gathering space.
